Meet the Team: April Boultbee, RMT

What led you to your particular field?

I was looking for a career change (former ESL/Academic upgrade teacher).  One of my friends from high school was looking to become a massage therapist and that placed a seed of interest in my brain.  Eventually I took the plunge and applied to massage school having no idea what I was getting into and just hoping that it would be something I would be good at.  I LOVED massage school – loved learning all the anatomy, physiology etc.  And I’ve been a RMT ever since.

What are you passionate about in your work?

I like helping people feel better leaving than when they came in.  I like learning how bodies react to certain massage techniques and that what works for one client might not for another one. It’s always great to figure out how each person’s body responds to massage therapy.

How does your practice relate to how you live personally?

I’ve been a runner for well over half my life and I’ve learned that it is always better to take care of niggles/injuries right away before they get chronic or more difficult to treat.  Regular massage and self care is so important in having a healthy body and mind.  I would always recommend coming in for massage on a regular basis (whatever that means for you) as a way of taking care of your body.  People take their vehicles in for regular checkups and so should you take your body in for regular maintenance work as well.  You can buy a new car, but you only have on body.

Thus I’ve become pretty good at taking rest days and getting some sort of body work scheduled in right away if I feel something is off, so I can get back to running sooner rather than later.

Do you have anything exciting to share on the horizon (i.e. a project you are working on, a new treatment you are introducing, a workshop you would love to share)?

I’m in the process of setting up my own ultra/trail running coaching business.

When you are not at Body Co, you are most likely……..?

Running, walking dogs, checking out new craft beer with friends, cycling around town.

Please share 2-5 things about yourself that others might now know and find interesting.

1.     I’m an identical twin so if you run into someone who looks like me but doesn’t acknowledge you or looks at you blankly, it’ll be my sister not me  😉

2.     I worked in the music industry for about 10-12 years and went on tour with one band for a few of their dates ( was really just hitching a ride to Winnipeg lol) .  It’s not an easy thing/life.  Mad respect to ALL touring artists out there.

3.     I often get called the ‘bunny’ from elementary aged school children.  I have volunteered for ~14 years for the TDSB TDESAA South Conference Cross County meets every October.  I was the pace ‘bunny’ for the runs (aka the person who runs at the front to lead the kids around the course).  I retired from being the bunny 2 years ago, but I’m still volunteering albeit now as the ‘turtle’ (aka the person bringing up the rear making sure the last kids get to the finish line).

April is available for massage appointments on Monday and Friday afternoons and evenings. You can schedule an appointment with April here.
