I often find myself in awe of the talented practitioners who make up the Body Co team. In fact, I am often bragging about their amazing skills and knowledge. In no way should that understate what incredible people they are as well.
Therapeutic relationships are built on trust. So in an effort to let you know more about the awesome people who take care of your health and wellness, I am pleased to introduce our “Meet the Team” series.
This week we are starting off with our manager of clinical services and orthopaedic physiotherapist, Jordan Fortuna. He is a wealth of knowledge about sports injuries and enjoys helping people stay active through functional movement. Here are a few things you might not know about him in his own words:
1. What led you to your particular field?
“I was originally drawn towards physiotherapy due to an interest in working with people as a healthcare provider and from my personal history of sport and exercise. I can’t say I have a laundry list of injuries in my personal past, but I do know the frustration and limitations that result from injuries and I wanted a role in helping others move beyond these roadblocks.”
2. What are you passionate about in your work?
“My current interests lie primarily in developing an exercise-based approach to injury rehabilitation that extend beyond the acute stages of pain. If I can make you stronger, I hope that means I see you less… which I mean in the best way possible.”
3. How does your practice relate to how you live personally?
“I do my best to practice what I preach. I enjoy an active lifestyle involving gym workouts, cycling, rock climbing, and the occasional weekend thru-hike and snowboarding adventure.”
4. Do you have anything exciting to share on the horizon (i.e. a project you are working on, a new treatment you are introducing, a workshop you would love to share)?
“Well I’m getting married at the end of September 2019, so that’s an exciting thing (please send positive planning vibes my way)! I am also planning on extending my practice skillset to include dry needling, a less relaxing version of acupuncture, by the end of 2019.”
5. When you are not at Body Co, you are most likely……..?
“The Rock Oasis (my local climbing gym), or in the kitchen pretending to be a good cook.”
6. Please share 2-5 things about yourself that others might now know and find interesting.
“I gave up on science (temporarily) and spent 3 years cooking in professional kitchens around Toronto. I am an avid home brewer and love to talk shop about local Toronto beer.”
If Jordan sounds like someone you would like to work with, you can find him in the clinic Tuesday to Friday and every other Saturday. Take a peak at his schedule and book online with him today.
