Meet the Team: Dr. Kelly Clinning, Naturopathic Doctor
What led you to your particular field?
Without knowing it, I have lived with the foundations of naturopathic medicine throughout my entire life. I remember my mom giving my siblings and me echinacea and vitamin C for immune support when we were little, and we always prioritized eating a healthy diet, lots of movement and sunshine and proper sleep for optimal health. In school, I excelled in science and become particularly interested in how the human body works which lead to an undergraduate degree in kinesiology. Eventually, I ended up visiting a naturopathic doctor to discuss some concerns around anxiety and became fascinated with this type of medicine. I enrolled and completed my 4-year degree in naturopathic medicine at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine and haven’t looked back since!
What are you passionate about in your work?
I believe there is a gap in our current healthcare model in the way women’s health issues are treated and am passionate about bridging this gap. Specifically when it comes to hormonal issues, thyroid concerns, and fertility treatment many women are not getting the proper workup and individualized care they need. I spend much of my free time researching how to better serve and advocate for these patients and it is what drives me to be constantly learning.
How does your practice relate to how you live personally?
I truly believe that balance is the key to health and I try to live by this motto. I am not a fan of extremes and actually strive for my patients to have more flexibility in their diet and lifestyle whenever possible. I am also someone who needs to understand the WHY behind things in my life and in practice.
Do you have anything exciting to share on the horizon (i.e. a project you are working on, a new treatment you are introducing, a workshop you would love to share)?
The Body Co. team and I are working on a new online course offering information on prenatal care! I am working on a module about naturopathic care during pregnancy including what to look for in a prenatal and common healths condition seen in pregnancy.
When you are not at Body Co, you are most likely……..
Exploring new restaurants throughout the city, spending time outdoors with my dog Willow, reading through my latest book club selection or watching webinars on topics I’m passionate about!
Please share 2-5 things about yourself that others might now know and find interesting.
I hate flying but have bungee jumped off the 3rd highest platform in the world.
I have developed a slightly alarming addiction to true crime and have several podcasts and shows always on the go.
Dr. Kelly Clinning is currently seeing patients at Body Co on Thursdays from 2 pm to 7 pm. If you would like to book an initial visit with her you can do so here.
